The sister of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, the University Of Benin student who was raped and murdered in a church in Ovie Quarters, Ikpoba Hill has accused the police of demanding for "mobility fee" before taking up her late sister's case. The deceased's sister made the allegation after leading some youths in a protest to the Edo state police headquarters where they were received by Edo State Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of operations, Ayoola Ajala. Uwaila's sister stated that she is disappointed in the Nigerian Police for allegedly refusing to following to take up the case when it was reported. She alleged that her father went to the police station in the community several times, but was told that they needed "mobilization money" for the case. A Twitter user with the handle @DanielFaithArts shared the video on the microblogging site, saying the incident happened to his sister. He said his sister, who recorded the sexual assault, reported the man to a soldier, but the latter told her to keep quiet or be detained because the molester spoke to him in Hausa. The Edo State Police Command has arrested one of the suspects linked to the rape and murder of Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa. Recall it was reported that the 22-year-old 100-level student of the University of Benin, Edo State was raped and killed by unknown persons while reading in RCCG church in Benin city. Confirming the arrest, Spokesman of Edo Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor told newsmen that the suspect was arrested after the fingerprint on the fire extinguisher she was attacked with was examined. Nwabuzor revealed that operatives of the command arrested the suspect after the Area Commander of Ikpoba Hill mobilized his men to take action. “The item used in the assault, which was a fire extinguisher, was recovered, immediately the operatives who were with some specialists screened the finger prints which led to our suspect. “Around the place of the incident, the suspect was arrested,” Nwabuzor said. Adulterated and expired products ranging from canned drinks and cosmetics worth over millions of naira have been burnt to ashes in Imo State. The exercise took place on Monday at Avu junction, Owerri, where the products were assembled for burning. The Acting Director General of Consumer Protection Council, Imo State chapter, Lucy Obioma Okafor expressed regret at the level of substandard and adulterated products in the markets, insisting that the council will stop at nothing in ridding the State of such. “We shall continue to burn every fake product in Imo State. Manufacturers of these substandard products should be careful because we won’t spare anyone. “As a regulatory body, we are consumer-friendly and will fight to ensure the good health of our citizenry,” he said. The DG, however, expressed delight that some traders and marketers selling fake products in the State had been exposed.
