A car carrying three passengers was on the bridge when it collapsed, according to an eyewitness who spoke with our reporter. Four people have been reported dead after a bridge collapsed at Oko-erin, Ilorin, Kwara State. The bridge collapsed after a heavy downfall on Saturday night. The driver and passengers dived into the canal and died before they could be rescued. “The bridge collapsed around 10pm on Saturday night because of heavy downfall. The driver was on the bridge when it tore apart and they fell into the canal. “They died because they could not get help as people don’t have means of rescuing them, we had to standby and expect the emergency team to come.” The emergency response team is currently at the scene making efforts to retrieve the car and bodies.

Four persons died on Friday while six others sustained varying degrees of injury in a ghastly motor accident in Anambra State, the Federal Road Safety Corps has said. The accident happened along Ogidi-Abatete Road in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. PREMIUM TIMES learned that the incident involved a Mercedez tipper loaded with sand and a 608 bus, with 19 persons on board. The passengers were attending a relative’s funeral when the bus collided with the truck. A witness who claimed the number of casualties was more than four, said the driver of the tipper lost control of the vehicle when his tyre burst. “No fewer than seven persons died on the spot while other passengers sustained degrees of injuries,” he said. A black Atlanta man died after he was shot by a white police officer in a fast-food drive-thru late Friday night. The victim, Rayshard Brooks, 27, was shot during a struggle and died after surgery at a local hospital, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. One officer was treated for an injury and discharged. Brooks had been asleep in his car in a Wendy’s drive-thru, causing other customers to drive around the car, the Bureau of Investigation said.
