Return of EPL: Rivers government restates ban on viewing centres

With the English Premier League set to resume today, the Rivers State government has restated its ban on viewing centres. The Rivers government also re-emphasized its ban on Cinemas across the State as COVID-19 continues to spread. State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim made the announcement in a statement issued in Port Harcourt. Paulinus stated that the State government is doing everything to discourage large gatherings due to the Coronavirus pandemic, adding that viewing centres and cinemas do not have a good crowd control arrangement. “The Rivers State Government hereby reminds the members of the general public, that the ban on the operation of cinemas and viewing centres is still in force, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Nigerian Singer, Oladapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has finally reacted to the rape allegation a lady peddled against him. The man who sent death threats to record label executive, Jude Okoye over his recent saga with female artiste, Cynthia Morgan, has been arrested. Jude Okoye took to his page, moments ago to share a video of the man confessing to the crime while in police custody. According to the troll, he sent Mr. Okoye the threatening messages after Cynthia Morgan accused Jude Okoye of her career misfortune. Chioma Rowland has responded to claims that her relationship is going through a crisis due to domestic violence. Covid-19: FG set to reopen schools, lists six conditions.

The Federal Government has listed six conditions to be met by each school and university before they can be allowed to reopen amid coronavirus pandemic, according to reports. It said the six conditions are to protect pupils and students against Coronavirus. It also asked all heads of schools to start putting measures in place to meet the terms. The FG is demanding decontamination of all schools and new class sizes which will accommodate social and physical distancing. The Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba announced the conditions in Abuja at the 2020 Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB). E-learning can’t work in Nigeria, says ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has expressed reservation on the online learning occasioned by the closure of schools over the coronavirus pandemic, saying, it cannot work in the Universities. Apart from the challenge of capacity requirement, the union premised its observation on the fact that “the quality in terms of content, in terms of presentation will be watered down.” According to ASUU, online teaching required some special pedagogical skills and training of lecturers who would be involved and giving them re-orientation which takes time for them to attune their minds. “I am even focusing on tertiary institutions now because I don’t want to go to the lower level. So if you talk of tertiary institutions, the first thing is when they don’t have the skills they will water down the quality in terms of content generation, what should go into content, it is different from loading students with materials. Police arrest man for allegedly raping, killing brother’s wife in Zamfara

The police in Zamfara State have confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old man, Aminu Bala, for allegedly raping and killing his elder brother’s wife in Gusau, the state capital. SP Mohammed Shehu, the command spokesperson, while parading the suspect on Monday, said Bala had already confessed to the crime. Shehu said the suspect hailed from Damaga village of Maradun Local Government Area of the state. He said, “The Tudun Wada Area Command, Gusau on June 15, at about 04.30 hours, received a distress call from Damba quarters of Gusau metropolis that the suspect had killed his brother’s wife. “The police immediately rushed to the scene and discovered the victim, Hauwa’u Iliyasu in the pool of her own blood having suffered from multiple machete cuts. She was then taken to the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau where she was certified dead by doctors.” According to him, the police had contacted the victim’s husband, Kabiru Bala via phone call. ”He was not in the state but

A man identified as Egwu Francis Emmanuel, has allegedly beaten his wife, Mrs Ezinne to coma in Amachara Village, Ebonyi State. According to an eye witness who couldn’t report to the Police for fear of being killed by the culprit who is alleged notoriously known for cult related activities, “This incidence is a repeated occurrence in the neighborhood. Even the wife is afraid to run away from the marriage as she is afraid of what may be her fate. As I’m talking to you now, she is lying in coma in Medical Center Afikpo.
