Friends mourn as Nigerian law school student dies after allegedly suffering a cardiac arrest while jogging

A student of the Nigerian law school in Enugu, Chiemerie Dim, has died. According to his friends, Chiemerie suffered a heart attack and died while he was jogging on Tuesday, June 23.  His friends who took to social media to mourn him, described him as a very intelligent young man who had so many dreams and goals he had set for his life. Chiemerie graduated from the Department of Law, Nnamdi Azikiwe University in 2019, and proceeded to the Nigerian Law School in Enugu where he was still a student before his sudden demise. His friends have taken to social media to mourn him and express shock at the news of his demise. Schools must create isolation spaces and fully-equipped clinics before reopening – FG

The Federal Ministry of Education has said that schools must create isolation spaces and have fully-equipped clinics before reopening. This was contained in the "Guidelines for schools and learning facilities reopening after COVID-19 pandemic closure", submitted to the National Assembly on Tuesday, June 23. According to the guidelines, each school is "required to create temporary isolation spaces and fully-equipped clinics before reopening". Schools are also required to "establish a referral system, including protocols and procedures to take if learners, teachers, administrators, and other education personnel become unwell while in schools.' The Ministry further stated in the document that any state wishing to reopen schools should "hold adequate consultations with the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and the parents." Man rescued after attempting to commit suicide in Ogun river (photos)

A 36-year-old man, Fatai Oyedele, was rescued after he attempted to commit suicide at the popular Ogun River in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital today June 24. According to eyewitnesses, the man arrived at the river at about 1pm today and attempted to plunge into it. He was rescued by men of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps. Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of Ogun TRACE Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the married man with five children, said he was frustrated with his life. He was later taken to the police station in Adigbe.

Women are not properties - Actress Toni Tones calls for abolition of bride price

Media personality and Nollywood actress, Gbemi Anthonia Adefuye, aka Toni Tones, has said that bride price culture should be scrapped. According to the thespian, women are not properties and are not meant to be sold. “Scrap bride price culture. Women are not property to be and sold.” she tweeted. It could be recalled that in the same vein, a Nigerian feminist, Rene Ahmed, who was once married, said that no one will pay her bride price ever again. The 36-year-old divorcee said if she decides to marry again, that she will pay the man’s bride price if he pays hers. According to her, bride price is totally unnecessary and it should be illegal.

D’Banj is not our ambassador – United Nations

The United Nations in a new report has declared that Nigerian singer, Dbanj is not a United Nations’ Youth Ambassador for Peace. The Director of Information, United Nations Information Centre for Nigeria, Joseph Kayanja, confirmed to journalists on Wednesday. Following the rape allegations levelled against D’Banj by Seyitan Babatayo, an online petition was started calling on the UN to strip the musician of the title. The petition on has been signed by over 22,000 people as of June 24, 2020. Responding to an inquiry, however, the UN said that D’Banj was never at any time given the title of ambassador by the UN. The PUNCH reported. Wife damages husband’s scrotum after allegedly catching him cheating with another woman

One Mrs Omolara Seriki, a 35-year-old married woman, allegedly damaged the scrotum of her 52-year-old husband, Raheem, after she allegedly caught him cheating with another woman in the Iragbiji area, Boripe council of Osun state. The Spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state, Daniel Adigun, while disclosing this to newsmen, stated that the couple had issues in their six-year-old marriage, forcing the man to move out of their matrimonial home. FG presents guidelines on schools’ reopening to National Assembly

The Minister of State for Education Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba on Tuesday June 23, presented proposed guidelines for the reopening of schools to the National Assembly. Recall that schools in the country were shut down in March by the Federal Government to curb the spread of Coronavirus. Update: Body of 17-year-old girl swept away by Lagos flood has been found

The body of a 17-year-old girl, simply identified as Ayisat, who was swept away by strong flood at Alapafuja axis of the Surulere Low-Cost Housing Estate on Monday June 22, has been found. On Monday, Lagos witnessed a heavy downpour causing most areas in the state to become flooded. The canal along Alapafuja close linking Bank Olemoh was submerged as a result of flooding. After an intense search, men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, found the dead body of the girl at Onilegogo canal, Surulere on Tuesday afternoon June 23. The body was handed over to her community members who immediately buried her.
