16 Students Awarded With N16million Scholarship, Laptops, For Outstanding Performance In JAMB 2020

16 candidates have been awarded scholarship worth N16million by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to study engineering courses in higher schools for their applaudable performance at JAMB 2020. The beneficiaries, comprising males and females, have indicated interest to study mechanical, industrial production, electrical, computer as well as civil engineering in Nigerian universities. The best three of the 16 candidates, Maduafokwa Egoagwuagwa Agnes, Nwobi Okwuchuwu David, and Ojuba Mezisasha Shalom, scored 369, 363 and 359 in the examination. Each of the candidates will get N200, 000 per year for the next five years if they gained admission this year. Besides, each of them got a brand new laptop while the best candidate, Maduafokwa got an extra new laptop and a tablet donated by the President, Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, Mrs. Funmilola Ojelade, and other sponsors. Groom dies after infecting over 100 wedding guests with Coronavirus

A wedding in India turned out to be a Coronavirus hotspot, killing the groom who had a high fever, and infecting more than 100 guests as his family didn't heed his request to post-pone the wedding ceremony. According to the Hindustan Times, the man, a 30-year-old software engineer developed diarrhea and a high fever before his June 15 wedding, but his family forced him to swallow a painkiller and go through with the ceremony, attended by more than 360 people in Paliganj.  48 hours later, his condition worsened and he died on the way to a hospital, according to the news outlet. His body was quickly cremated without being tested for the coronavirus.  As a result of the man's death, all of his close relatives were tested for the virus on June 19 and 15 were confirmed to be positive.  In a desperate attempt to prevent the spread of the disease, a camp was set up where samples were taken from the other attendees. Of those, 86 have tested positive, officials said Tuesday.

Child Rights International petitions Ghana Police to probe actress Akuapem Poloo's nude photo with her son

Child Rights International has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police in Ghana to investigate actress Akuapem Poloo over her nude photo with her seven-year-old son, which has since gone viral on social media. On Tuesday, June 30, the actress went completely nude in a photoshoot with her son to celebrate him on his 7th birthday. She said she decided to go naked in front of her son who was only in his underwear because she gave birth to him naked. Akuapem Poloo has since apologized after facing social media backlash. But in a statement by Child Rights International, the non-governmental organisation deemed her act as a 'violation of the welfare principle of the Children’s Act and abuse of the child’s right to privacy and dignity.' The organisation also asked that the Inspector-General of Police in Ghana investigate the actress over the nude photo with her son. See a copy of the statement below.

Dog mauls newborn twin sisters to death while their mother who had struggled to conceive for 9 years briefly left the room to talk to a neighbour

Newborn twin sisters were mauled to death by a family dog when their mother briefly left the room to talk to a neighbour. Mother Elaine Novais, 29, a council worker who had struggled to conceive for nine years, left her 26-day-old premature babies at their home in Piripá, in the northeastern state of Bahia, Brazil, last Tuesday, June 23. She had not been gone for long when she heard the girls Anne and Analú crying. She rushed back to their bedroom but it was too late. The Labrador and American foxhound cross had brutally attacked the girls. Mrs Novais pulled the jealous dog away from the twins, but it had already inflicted fatal damage on their abdomens. A nurse who lived nearby performed first aid on the twins. One died instantly from her injuries and the other later died at Maria Pedreira Barbosa Municipal Hospital after going into cardiac arrest. A Trust Fund for the children of late Olamide Alli, who was murdered by her fiancé, Chris Ndukwe, has exceeded the 20 Million Naira target. AGS Tribe, a women entrepreneurial empowerment community Olamide belonged to before she was brutally killed by her fiancé Chris Ndukwe, decided to set up a trust fund for the two children she left behind - aged 7 and 3. A video making the rounds on social media has shown the moment a woman and her househelp burst into tears as they bid farewell to each other after years of staying together under one roof. The house help who was ready to take her leave after years of serving her madam revealed how she was treated fairly during her time in her madam’s house. Taking to Facebook, the madam shared a video of the emotional moment, while pleading with Nigerians to favour her whenever they see her. In her words; “This is a very emotional night for me!! Nigerian lady takes beggar off the street, enrols him in school

A kind Nigerian woman, Irene Ubani, has given a street beggar identified as Abolude Ayodeji, an opportunity to become better in life. According to reports, Irene Ubani said the boy, Deji, used to beg for alms at her bus stop alongside other teenagers like him. After seeing him on different occasions, she was moved to help him with the collaboration of the commissioner of education in Lagos state, Folashade Adefisayo. Irene said the boy is not only better but now off the street. She also appreciated her friends who supported her and all the Lagos state staff at the Ministry of Education, who welcomed him.

Delta Gov Okowa, wife test positive for coronavirus

Delta Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and his wife have tested positive for coronavirus. He made the announcement Wednesday on Twitter. “My wife and I have tested positive for COVID-19. We are well and continuing with our isolation/medication. “We thank you all for your continued prayers for us and our daughter”, he tweeted.
