Man, 60, allegedly rapes eight year old girl after luring her with N100 (photo)

The Niger state police command has arrested 60-year-old Haruna Lawal, for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in Wushishi community in the state. A statement from the spokesperson of the state police command, Wasiu Abiodun, says Haruna, a scavenger, saw the little girl while she was hawking fish in the area. He allegedly offered her a N100 note and then took her into an uncompleted building where he had canal knowledge of her. Wasiu said during interrogation, Haruna confessed to the crime and will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.

Banks to seize defaulter’s funds in other banks

Guidelines on the Global Standing Instruction (GSI) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria, has granted banks the right to seize loan defaulters’ money in other banks. According to the apex bank, the GIS guideline was issued to enhance loan recovery in the banking sector and to facilitate an improved credit repayment culture; reduce Non-Performing Loans in the banking industry; and watch-list consistent loan defaulters. Accounts eligible for such seizure include individual savings accounts, current accounts, domiciliary accounts, investment /deposit accounts in both Naira, foreign currencies; as well as electronic wallets and joint accounts. The statement read in parts; “The GIS shall serve as the last resort by a creditor bank without recourse to the borrower to recover past due obligations principal and accrued interest only, excluding any penal charges from a defaulting borrower through a direct set-off from deposit/investments held in the borrower’s qualifying bank account

Man arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl while taking shelter in her mother’s shop on a rainy day

A man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl after taking shelter in her mom's shop on a rainy day. Abdul Abdul, 39, was arrested by the Police in Jos, Plateau State. Abdul, a married father-of-six who lives in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area, allegedly committed the crime on June 8, when he went into the girl's mother's shop to buy water. Speaking to newsmen on Monday, July 13, Abdul claimed what he had with the girl was "sex" not rape. He said he took shelter in the girl's mum's shop after buying 20 Naira sachet water following a break from the building project he was involved in in the house opposite the shop. He claims that he remained in the shop, discussing with the girl after buying the water.  He said he touched her shoulder and she didn't resist so he went further.
