UK prime minister, Boris Johnson announces football fans should be allowed back into stadiums by October in huge boost for next season

Boris Johnson has announced football fans should be allowed back to sports stadiums in the United Kingdom from October in a huge boost for the next Premier League season. The Prime Minister made the announcement on Friday July 17, in the latest lifting of the UK's lockdown. Supporters have been banned from entering stadiums since football returned in order to halt the spread of Coronavirus. But in his announcement, Boris revealed fans may be allowed back early on in the 2020-21 season, while pilot tests will begin in August with a view to having fans in stadiums as soon as possible. Johnson said: 'From August 1, we will restart indoor performance to a live audience, subject to the success of pilots, and we will also pilot larger gatherings in venues like sports stadia, with a view to a wider reopening in the autumn. Flying officer, Tolulope Arotile, to be buried on Thursday July 23

The remains of late Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF’s) first female combat helicopter pilot, who died on 14 July 2020, will be laid to rest with full military honours at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja on Thursday, July 23. This was disclosed in a statement released by the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola. Tolulope died in an accident in Kaduna state.

UK won’t pay you hazard allowance - Minister of Health, Ehanire Osagie tells doctors seeking to relocate

Minister of health, Ehanire Osagie has told doctors seeking to relocate that to other countries to reconsider their decision as they won't be paid hazard allowance in countries like UK. Ehanire who insisted that they are working out a better welfare package for doctors in the country, expressed surprise over a recent report of 58 doctors who were prevented from leaving the country for the UK. He added that he is not aware if the doctors eventually left the country. Ehanire said; “We were all surprised to hear that they were at the airport. I think somehow or the other, it was irregular in that many of them did not have visas. Man jailed for stealing church offering and phone in Ebonyi

An Ebonyi state Magistrates’ Court sitting in Abakaliki on Thursday July 16, handed a 12 months’ jail sentence without an option of fine to one Emmanuel Nwonu, said to be the son of a visually-impaired man. The convict was accused of stealing N45,465 belonging to St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kpirikpiri, Abakaliki.  The sum of N41,465 was recovered from Nwonu who was also accused of stealing an undisclosed amount of money and a phone from a woman in the Udunukwe area of Abakaliki. The charges against the convict who was arraigned on two counts of burglary and stealing on Thursday July 16, read; "That you, Emmanuel Nwonu, July 11, 2020, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kpirikpiri, Abakaliki, in the Abakaliki Magisterial District, did enter a building used for religious worship and stole the sum of N45,465 belonging to St. Patrick Catholic Church, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 415 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria

Rivers police arrest man for impregnating his 16-year-old daughter after raping her over a period of five years (photo)

Men of the Rivers state police command have arrested a 47-year-old man, Eromosele Mahmud, for allegedly impregnating his 16-year-old daughter after raping her over a period of five years. According to the spokesperson of the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, Mahmud who is a single parent and father of three from the Esako West Local Government Area of Edo State but resident in Port Harcourt, confessed that he has been raping his own daughter since she was 12. He told the police his daughter began enjoying their sexual intercourse and was the one who initiates it sometimes. He said he doesn't know what pushed him to start sleeping with his own child. When interrogated, Mahmud said This is a battle I have tried to fight over the years and it seems to be much bigger than me. I am not going to withdraw any fact or truth as far as this case is concerned. If this is the only way my daughter can be liberated if I go to prison, then it is good. Actress Queen Sylvanus has asked how men can take their girlfriends on a date using public transport because they do not have cars. Blessing David, a 19-year-old girl and member of a cult known as the Marine Girls has recounted how she slept with 10 men before being initiated into the group. Blessing who made the confession while being paraded alongside 15 armed robbery suspects, six cultists, three kidnappers and four murder suspects at the headquarters of the Edo State Police Command in Benin City, said she was initiated into the group in 2019. The female cultist further revealed that sleeping with the men was part of the initiation rites. She said; “My name is Blessing David. I was initiated into the cult last year. I slept with 10 men as part of the initiation process." Another female cultist identified as 16-year-old Ada Emeka, also disclosed that she slept with 10 men.

Nneka Ede becomes first African woman to own a European football club after buying Lusitano

Nigerian entrepreneur, Nneka Ede has become the first African woman to own a European football club after buying Lusitano Ginasio Clube, a Portuguese third division side. Ede who secured 100 percent ownership of the 108-years-old club which last played in the Portuguese top-flight division in the 1950’s for an undisclosed amount, said her recent acquisition will help foster a greater relationship between Portugal and Nigeria.
